In English, the word MASTERS (plural form of the word Master) can have several meanings and connotations with a wide palette of emotional colouring. In some cases, the word’s meaning can be associated with Creators, Masters of their craft, Men of Ideas or works belonging to them.

Masters create masterpieces, and it does not matter in what field of art or production they work. Experiments, years of trial and error, failure and success, but it is still not enough. The Talent must guess the right time. And, of course, the Master must love his work. When Love and Mastery unite, you can expect the birth of a masterpiece.

MASTERS — Timeline

MASTERS was founded in 2017 as an experimental project for the development of electroacoustic solutions for big venues. The developments are based on the latest methods of digital signal processing and new algorithms of loudspeaker modelling. Developments subject to the requirements of professional AV integrators and installers have been applied in a number of innovative sound reinforcement products.

Despite the fact that in 2017 a number of MASTERS ideas seemed too complicated for industry professionals, today these concepts are in demand and irreplaceable.

Now, entering the international market, MASTERS is ready to provide unprecedented capabilities for working with sound reinforcement systems.

MASTERS — Mission

The MASTERS product range is an exact response to the request of professional users who want to get high-quality equipment for use in modern venues with the highest requirements to sound quality, efficiency and ergonomics. The list of venues includes large and small concert halls, music and drama theatres and multifunctional halls.

The MASTERS portfolio, consisting of active and passive loudspeakers and electronics was developed taking into consideration requirements of professional users. Special requests of Russian specialists including engineers from IMLIGHT, the distributor of MASTERS in Russia, have also been taken into account.

IMLIGHT has gained access to the full product range, although for some markets there are certain restrictions related to the readiness of local specialists to work with certain types of digital equipment and software products. The core points noted by IMLIGHT specialists:

Adaptation of all MASTERS elements for use in complex sound reinforcement systems in big venues.
Ability to integrate equipment into a system with a unified control by using state-of the-art hardware.
Maximum freedom in managing parameters of the control elements.
A multi-level access to work with fine control parameters (to avoid user mistakes).
Different elements for system hanging and installation even in the basic product version.

MASTERS — Persons

Who are MASTERS? It is expressed by the trademark name — creators, experts. It is incredibly difficult to be equally competent in all areas of contemporary professional audio. That’s why top experts and qualified engineers in specific areas responsible for the development of amplification and control components, speakers, cabinets and metal structures were involved in designing of the MASTERS equipment.

One of the chief project managers and the main developer of all digital system components is Michele Marani. There are many interesting things to say about Signiore Marani, as his indisputable authority and the highest professionalism in the sphere of digital audio are in demand by many Big Manufacturers and have been proven by creation of dozens of systems and devices well known in the professional audio market. Still the boundaries of his own brand became too tight for the Master. MASTERS products have encompassed innovative technologies, which yet have no analogues in the industry, including the serial products by MARANI brand. "MASTERS inherit more Marani’s ideas than MARANI."

Simone Castrucci, one of the MASTERS engineers, headed the works on writing the main algorithms for the operation of peripheral digital devices of the amp modules. Engineer Roberto Bonanno also took part in making the software.

The speakers for the MASTERS acoustic systems were developed by LAVOCE engineers under the personal supervision of Riccardo Abbatelli, although some models come with products from other well-known manufacturers.

The calculations and manufacturing of the loudspeaker cabinets were made by the leading designers in the Asian region, engineers Huo Jun Hua, Huo Jun Wen and Deng Hai Feng.

The Russian manufacturing part has so far been involved only as a supplier of some materials, mainly, high-quality birch plywood.

After all, mollusks make pearls out of a grain of sand under the mantle, and not at seminars with other mollusks.

MASTERS — Technologies

Speaking about electrodynamic sound emitters (i. e., speakers) and associated cabinets improvement, it is difficult to come up with something radically new (at least, something that can be bought for money). That’s why, the main research field for the MASTERS founders was the work on creating unique algorithms for signal modification in a digital environment and adapting the results to the daily activities of professional audio equipment users. Certainly, with such a team of "digital artists" headed by Michele Marani, it was expected to get unique technological inventions. The MASTERS loudspeaker tools open up unlimited application possibilities for the users. The main thing is to be able to use this rich palette.

So, what do MASTERS systems offer and, most importantly, how it works?

Control of all MASTERS loudspeaker and power amplifier parameters can be performed by using TCP/IP and DANTE (optional) digital network protocols. A Wi-Fi access point for devices control is also available (optional).
Built-in MARANI DSPs, developed specifically for MASTERS, run at 96k sampling rate, and the high-frequency response can reach 40 kHz.
The latest signal processing algorithms, including IIR and FIR filters, as well as newly added unique MIR filters, allowing the user to change the loudspeaker sound character. The fourth generation iFIR wizard V4.0 plug-in supports automatic measurement and generation of FIR coefficients, as well as the import of FIR coefficients generated by a third-party software. A new MIR linear phase filter is added to the output crossover filter, which can avoid the phase distortion caused by the traditional IIR filter.
The built-in dynamic loudness filter, the working principle of which is to self-adaptively boost the ultra-low and ultra-high frequency bands according to the equal loudness curve of the human ear, and the boost ratio is determined by the magnitude of the signal amplitude, which significantly improves the overall hearing of the small and medium-sized loudspeakers.
A new algorithm of the hard limiter with zero delay is used for ultimate speaker protection against possible overloads.
The parametric equalizer (PEQ) has up to 16 filter types to choose from. The output crossover filters include classic Linkwitz-Riley, Bessel, Butterworth filters, unique MARANI NXF filter (Notched X-over Filter), FIR filter, and newly added MIR linear phase filter which can make the phase of the crossover point easier to join while maintaining a very low delay.
Setting up MASTERS loudspeakers does not require the use of additional and third-party software as all main operating tools are provided by the DSP.

No other loudspeakers on the market can yet provide such tools without the use of external devices.
